Twisted Metal Screenshot

Welcome to our Twisted Metal PS3 Screenshots Gallery!

Twisted Metal (sometimes referred to as “Twisted Metal PS3?) is an upcoming vehicle combat video game developed by Eat Sleep Play and published by Sony Computer Entertainment exclusively for the PlayStation 3 video games console. It is the eighth installment in the series of the same name. The game was planned to be released in October 2011, but was delayed until early 2012.

It is here that we will post the latest screencaps and artwork from the game. Many of the screenshots could also make great desktop images!

We will add to this gallery as we find cool new pics.

Epic not working on new Unreal game

AppId is over the quota

Epic may well be more known for their Gears of War franchise these days than their Unreal Tournament beginnings, but the company isn’t the kind that forgets where they coming from.

That said, dev pres Mike Capps has confirmed that the team isn’t currently working on any new Unreal Tournament title. “Unreal and Unreal Tournament continue to have a huge influence on the studio here, even though we’re not currently working on an Unreal IP project,” Capps stated in an interview with Forbes (via).

Given that Epic are currently working on five different titles, it’s a shame to know that this once-popular series isn’t among them. The last game in the franchise, 2007's Unreal Tournament III, is probably the last example of arena-based multiplayer that can be found on PS3 and 360. We’d like to see more.

Battlefield 3 pre-orders at 1.5 million — analyst

AppId is over the quota

Pre-orders of Battlefield 3 have hit 1.5 million, Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia has noted in a recent industry note — that’s up from EA’s own estimate of 1.25 copies earlier in the month –  with the Back to Karkand multiplayer map pack seen as a considerable incentive. “This $15 to $20 value should be a big incentive for customers to pre-order BF3,” Bhatia says.

All in all, “management remains optimistic that the title has potential to exceed sales of its predecessor [Battlefield: Bad Company 2], which has sold through 9.5 million units life-to-date,” he wrote, expecting review scores to be at at least 80.

He continued: “The combined marketing dollars for BF3 and Call of Duty: MW 3 could reach $100 million this year.

“The two week head start for BF3 versus CoD will facilitate a big launch for BF3. Once CoD launches, there would be a natural slowdown in sales of BF3. Then, at holiday, momentum for BF3 should rebuild.”

The shooter is expected to have “a long tail” however, due to post-launch content.

Operation Raccoon City on for 2012?

AppId is over the quota

So what if Resident Evil 6 skipped its much-rumored TGS announcement this year? We’ve still got Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City to look forward to in 2011, right? Maybe not.

It would seem that the Winter release that Slant Six’s multiplayer spin-off was given when it was announced applies to the 2012 side of things. The game was strangely MIA during TGS, and speculation of a delay has been ripe since. Publisher Capcom issued IGN with a statement that read: “We haven’t announced a delay in the game. Since the announcement of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, Capcom had said that it is coming out this Winter. It still is planned to do so.”

Many had hoped that this was the pre-Christmas kind of Winter, but it would seem not. Instead it sounds like we can look forward to this one hitting in the first three months of 2012.

Meanwhile, where the hell is Resident Evil 6?

Battlefield 3 gets timed exclusive expansions on PS3

AppId is over the quota

In the same spirit in which Activision favors the Xbox 360 with timed exclusive Call of Duty DLC, EA will be doing it with Battlefield 3 expansions on PlayStation 3, announced DICE just recently.

Reports say that while the content will not be exclusive for a month, such as any Call of Duty DLC is, they will in fact come out a week ahead on Sony’s console before arriving on the Xbox 360, starting with the pre-order incentive that is the Back to Karkand map pack.

This applies to “all full-blown upcoming expansion packs”; regular DLC seems unaffected.

Battlefield 3 hits PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC on October 25th (US) and 28th (the rest). Mind you, the open beta starts as early as September 27th (early access) and 29th (for all).

Spotlight On: Duncan (Dragon Age Origins)

AppId is over the quota
Duncan Dragon Age Origins

In this Episode I will be shedding some light on Dragon Age: Origins’ lead Grey Warden – Duncan!

Hello everyone and welcome to another ‘Spotlight On’ episode, where I shine the spotlight on the little details of my favorite video games! Today I’ll be talking about Duncan. But don’t watch the video if you haven’t played Dragon Age: Origins as it contains plot-related spoilers!

Check out the video here!

As a character, he is soft-spoken, dignified, strong and wise and, as a result, easy to see why so many respected him! Hell even I respected him only a few minutes into the game!

I think what is marvellous about his character, is the fact that he fills the role of “soft guiding presence” but has a ruthless streak too. When it comes to the Blight and the Darkspawn, Duncan is brutal and does what he must to further the cause. No back story was given at all regarding Duncan, which was a wonderful touch.

Overall I take my hat off to the developers and Peter Renaday (or Renoudet) for bringing this character to life!

So what did you think of Duncan?

Please leave your comments, opinions and suggestions in the section below thank you for watching and I’ll see you all in my next video!

Gears 3 DLC to be substantial(ly different)

AppId is over the quota

Gears of War 3 will continue adding to the package, substantially, through downloadable content, Epic Games has revealed.

The developer plans to release new maps, cooperative add-ons, and even campaign content, though not with any of the usual suspects present.

“We have some DLC that’s coming up. We’ve confirmed we’ll be doing campaign DLC. One thing I can tell you is that you’re not going to see Marcus or Dom or Cole in it,” Epic’s design man Cliff Bleszinski’s told The Telegraph (via).

“I believe that DLC should be unique and cool, like Lost and the Damned, Gay Tony, Mad Moxie’s Underdome Riot. All those kind of things. DLC’s the place where you play and have fun. So that’s one thing that’s an indication of where things may be going in the future.”

There’s the campaign to get through first though; the game launches today worldwide.

Forza 4 demo early next month

AppId is over the quota

We pretty much know how Forza Motorsport 4 will play given that, well, we’ve played the other three games, but those still eager for a taste of speed can get it early next month.

A new ‘Making of’ trailer for the game has shown up on the Xbox Live Marketplace, bringing with it confirmation of a demo for the game releasing on October 4. That’d be two weeks from today, then. The game itself will be out on Xbox 360 a week later on October 11 in the US and October 14 in the EU.

Batman: Arkham City PC delayed, new screens

AppId is over the quota

In a quick note just sent over by WB, it’s been announced that the PC version of Batman: Arkham City has been delayed ever so slightly; it can now be expected in November. Nothing more precise though.

To make up for it in some small way, 4 new screenshots from the PC version were released; catch them in the gallery here.

The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions are still on track for October.

Battlefield 3 beta out September 29th

AppId is over the quota

We’ve been waiting, and waiting, and waiting some more, and while all this waiting may have unreasonably gotten to our heads considering we’re not talking about the release of the actual game, excitement flows in the air as DICE and EA have finally let loose information on the September-bound — which we were slowly running out of — Battlefield 3 open beta.

It’s now known the beta will be out on all PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC on September 29th through October 10th (there’s a dedicated site up too). Still a week and a half to go — unless you happen have pre-ordered the game on Origin or own a special edition copy of Medal of Honor, in which cases it’s only a week worth of agonizing wait for you (September 27th) — but with the announcement comes relief of finally knowing the unknown.

Those lucky to have been part of the alpha testing will be familiar with both the mode and map available in the beta; Rush on Operation Metro, which encompasses not the vehicular warfare Battlefield is known for, but the new kind of settings DICE is rolling with, which are not only vast, open areas, but tight enclosed quarters as well.

Battlefield 3‘s social media network, otherwise known as Battlelog, will be made available as well, letting players “communicate and compete with friends, track their stats and share their progress.”

The beta will automatically appear on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace and Origin’s application’s demo page when available.

KERS also returns, giving players an extra 80BHP for up to 6.67 seconds, enabling drivers to blast past rivals. Combined, these systems encourage close wheel-to-wheel racing with new options for both defense and attack. This season’s new Pirelli tires are faithfully simulated in the game, and if players push their car too hard they may experience a range of authentic new damage failures.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution boss battles were outsourced

AppId is over the quota

Eidos Montreal can’t take total credit for the hit that is Deus Ex: Human Revolution. It has been revealed that the game’s boss battles were outsourced to another company.

It was G.R.I.P. Entertainment, a Canadian contract company, that actually handled the boss battles. Many reviews made a point to highlight the spike in difficulty of the boss battles; it all makes sense now.

DLC is planned for Deus Ex: Human Revolution and the game is on the way to Macs this winter.

PS Vita to address update woes

AppId is over the quota

Sony’s admitted the way its current hardware applies is quite the hassle for its customers; something it intends to improve upon with its upcoming PlayStation Vita.

Speaking with GI (via), Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida said he finds it “very annoying when you only have one hour in your busy life to play a game, and when you have to spend 30 minutes out of that one hour to update the hardware.”

He is not a fan of the “intrusiveness” of the way updates are applied.

“I cannot talk about specific plans, but we are very aware of the issues, and we’d like to address those issues on PS Vita going forward.”

AC: Revelations PS3 ships with original game

AppId is over the quota

“Day one” copies of Assassin’s Creed: Revelations will pack in the super successful series’ first entry, the very first, 2007's Assassin’s Creed.

The sad news for everyone but Sony customers though is that the bonus will be included in the PlayStation 3 version of the adventurer only. Publisher Ubisoft says this is due to their “special partnership with Sony Computer Entertainment.”

The franchise’s first and latest; it’ll make for an interesting comparison, no?

Revelations is out this November.

Kojima still wants Zone of the Enders 3

AppId is over the quota

One of the biggest disappointments of TGS this year (among Yaukza 5 and Resident Evil 6‘s absence) was the lack of a Zone of Enders 3 announcement, despite Hideo Kojima hosting a conference about the series.

The Metal Gear mastermind did however admit that he was still hoping to make a sequel and has regular discussions about it with his staff. Having seen the size of the crowd at TGS, he promised that he would continue to have those discussions. We had thought that a reveal for near-confirmed for TGS when Zone of the Enders 3DS rumors popped up a while back. Perhaps we’ll have to look closer to the launch of the Zone of the Enders HD Collection for more news.

EA confirms Visceral Melbourne closure

AppId is over the quota

EA has confirmed previous reports of it shutting down its Visceral Melbourne studio. News of the move first came via Twitter over the weekend, but it’s as official as can be now.

“With no active project in development at that location, we’ve decided to close the Visceral Melbourne office,” an EA rep tells MCV. “They are talented individuals and may find other roles elsewhere in EA, if they choose.”

“EA continues to maintain its mobile studios in Melbourne which are both thriving and hiring.”

Gearbox asking for DNF opinions

Hated, despised, loathed, or adored Duke Nukem Forever? Now’s your chance to let it all out. Kind of. Gearbox-sanctioned no less.

The developer wants players’ feedback on the title with questions ranging from overall quality, the likeability of the character to thoughts on multiplayer. The survey is on the short side though (have a go at it here), so you may have to send an email to get it ALL out.

FF6, Chrono Trigger NOT on PSN this week

AppId is over the quota

A bummer update for those expecting Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger on PlayStation Network this week; yesterday’s news on the official PlayStation Blog got things quite wrong.

PlayStation’s Twitter gives an update: “We screwed up the date. Sorry about that! Those games *are* coming to PSN, but not tomorrow like we reported.”

An update is promised for a later time.

Crytek UK developing Homefront 2

AppId is over the quota

Formerly known as Free Radical, developer of TimeSplitters, Crytek UK’s portfolio will eventually expand beyond the already-developed Crysis 2‘s multiplayer portion as reports say the studio is currently working on Homefront 2. Its prequel did well enough to get a so-so reception from both critics and fans, but was unfortunately not enough in the eyes of publisher THQ, which closed the studio behind it (Kaos Studios) earlier this year.

“We see Homefront as a really strong universe that has a lot of potential and that has been expertly created and marketed by THQ,” said Crytek head Cevat Yerli. “We believe that bringing our level of quality, creativity and production values to the next Homefront title, creates an opportunity for both THQ and Crytek to deliver a truly blockbuster game. It’s really important to us that THQ has the faith in giving us a lot of creative freedom over one of its most important properties to allow us to bring the Homefront world to life in a new and innovative way.”

How far that arm of “creative freedom” will reach is anyone’s guess at this point, as any information about the sequel is lacking; there has been no confirmation of CryEngine 3 powering the game (update: there has now), unsurprisingly so considering by the time the game is set to hit stores in fiscal 2014. We might be looking at new hardware by then, a speculation subtly fueled by the actual press release which did not state any specific platforms on which the game would be available on.

“With Crytek’s industry leading technology and legendary experience in the FPS genre, we’re supremely confident that the next Homefront will deliver that AAA-quality experience that players demand,” added THQ Core Games’ Danny Bilson.

APB Reloaded beta nearing end

AppId is over the quota

The relaunch of APB nears; the MMO’s months-long beta testing is almost complete, the official blog announces.

“The first 90+ days of Open Beta have been great in helping us identify how players actually interact with the game,” they write (via), which includes information on where players go, what they do, what vehicles they like to drive, what they’re willing to pay for etc.

“The amount of data collected in Open Beta has been staggering’, it’s further noted. “Unfortunately we have to now prioritize and structure this insane amount of feedback into actionable things.”

Beyond that, there’s still work to be done on eliminating frustrations like aimbots and wallhacks as well. Give the full update a read here for all the deets.

BioShock Infinite Preview

AppId is over the quota
Bioshock Infinite Screenshot

This BioShock Infinite Preview gives a quick look at what can be expected from Irrational Games’ first person shooter title!

BioShock Infinite is an upcoming first-person shooter video game, and the third game in the BioShock series. It is being developed by Irrational Games for a 2012 release on the Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms.

BioShock Infinite is not a direct sequel or prequel to previous BioShock games, taking place in an earlier period and different setting, though it features similar gameplay concepts and themes. The player controls a former Pinkerton agent, Booker DeWitt, as he attempts to rescue a woman named Elizabeth trapped aboard the collapsing air-city Columbia in 1912.

The Creative Director behind the beautiful looking new game BioShock Infinite sits down for an interview about dimensional tears, winged monsters and more in this video.

Watch the entire BioShock Infinite gameplay demo from E3 2011!

Ken Levine walks us through this Bioshock: Infinite demo and details its new setting in the sky and prototype of the “Skyhook.”

Here is a list of key elements that will be available in Irrational Games’ BioShock Infinite based on news and announcements made so far.

BioShock Infinite is a first person shooter with role-playing game elements similar to the previous two games. As DeWitt, the player moves about the various structures of Columbia using a grappling hook, a series of railways connecting the buildings called the Skyline, and other transport means to search for Elizabeth.

Weapons, Powers & Abilities
The player will gain weapons which can be used in numerous ways within the environment, including on the Skyline, to defeat enemies. DeWitt gains powers and abilities by using vigors and nostrums that are found through Columbia, the equivalent of BioShock’s plasmids and tonics. Vigors grant activated powers such as telekinesis, electricity manipulation, or animal control (as seen by the manipulation of a flock of crows within the gameplay demo), while nostrums are passive abilities that can improve the player’s strength or damage resistance.

Elizabeth
Once reunited with Elizabeth, who also has a set of such powers, the player must work together with her to escape Columbia. For example, Elizabeth can create a localized rainstorm on foes, which the player, as DeWitt, can then fire upon with an electricity-based attack, electrocuting the foes. The player will not be directly in control of Elizabeth, but instead she will react to the player and the current situation in a manner similar to the AI Director in Left 4 Dead, according to Levine. However, using Elizabeth’s powers also harms her, an action compared to the choice of killing or saving the Little Sisters from the previous games. Elizabeth also has the ability to interact with the tears in the fabric of space-time, pulling objects from the other side to use within Columbia, escaping from battle through these, or repairing them. The player will need to protect Elizabeth, but will not need “to babysit and hand-hold” her through the game.

The Skyline
The Skyline is a rail-based system (originally designed for moving cargo around Columbia but later used for personnel transport) similar to the concept found in the Ratchet & Clank games and described by Levine as “a roller coaster, over another roller coaster, over another roller coaster”; players activate a wrist-mounted tool that DeWitt and other enemies wear to jump and hang onto the self-powered tracks. The freedom of movement along the Skyline allows for several varieties of combat, including flanking, cover, and area-of-effect attacks through creative uses of the system.

Nostrums
Nostrums are permanent changes to the character and cannot be removed once used. These come in two types, stable and unstable varieties, the latter referred to as “potlucks”. Stable nostrums are more expensive, but the player knows exactly what effect applying the nostrum will gain them. Unstable nostrums are cheaper or can be found lying around the environment, but upon use, require the player to select one of four random effects to alter their character.

Check out the trailer!

PS Vita Is Region Free! Import Friendly

AppId is over the quota
PS Vita Import Friend and Region-Free (Confirmed)

Hurrah hurrah! The PlayStation Vita will be REGION-FREE and import-friendly, confirmed SCE President of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida.

The new was confirmed via Yoshida’s official Twitter page, when the question about whether the PlayStation Vita would be region-free, and thus friendly to importers, was posed. Following Sony executive Michael Denny stating the PS Vita would be region free “as far as I know”, at E3 2011.

But this is the first time that official confirmation of the PlayStation Vita’s region-free, import-friendly status has been confirmed.

This, of course, will come as music to the ears of otaku everywhere who love to import obscure Japanese games that would never be released in the West. This also means you could import a Japanese PS Vita system and have it play your American (NTSC) or European (PAL) videogames and media just fine.

Will you import a PS Vita or do you plan on importing PlayStation Vita games?

Here is a video from the TGS 2011 PS Vita keynote.

Ninja Gaiden mastermind playable in Saints Row: The Third

AppId is over the quota

Hulk Hogan and Sasha Grey can step aside; Ninja Gaiden designer Tomonobu Itagaki has been confirmed as a playable character in Saints Row: The Third.

The famous developer will be one of the templates that a player can pick from at the start of the game should they choose to skip building their own character. He’ll sport his trademark sunglasses and jacket. It’s interesting to note that the man has been involved in a sexual harassment suit before (of which he was cleared from) and is now in a Saints Row game of all things.

As bonkers as it all sounds, one explanation comes from the fact that the designer is currently working on another THQ-published game – The Devil’s Third. Saints Row: The Third (Lots of Thirds here) will launch on PS3, 360 and PC on November 15 in the US and November 18 in the EU.

Sony prices PS Vita accessories

AppId is over the quota

Sony unveiled accessories for its upcoming next-gen portable PlayStation Vita back at E3 earlier this year, and with the cavalcade of news arriving from the weekend’s Tokyo Game Show, it was only a matter of time before all these accessories were priced. Now they have been, in Japanese Yens, but it’ll give you a pretty good idea of what’s to come once the handheld launches in regions worldwide.

Launching December 17, 2011 (in JPY and rough USD estimates)
• Memory card 4GB – ¥2,200 ($29)
• Memory card 8GB – ¥3,200 ($42)
• Memory card 16GB – ¥5,500 ($72)
• Memory card 32GB – ¥9,500 ($124)
• AC adaptor – ¥1,800 ($24)
• USB cable – ¥1,300 ($17)
• Cradle – ¥2,800 ($37)
• In-ear headset – ¥2,800 ($37)
• Protective film – ¥800 ($11)
• Card case – ¥600 ($8)
• Case – ¥1,800 ($24)
• Pouch – ¥1,500 ($20)
• Travel pouch with cleaning cloth and wrist strap – ¥2,300 ($30)
• Carrying pouch (black) – ¥1,800 ($24)

Launching Spring 2012
• Car adaptor – Pricing yet to be determined.
• Portable charger – Pricing yet to be determined.

Surprised? For better or for worse? Some of these price tags might seem a bit steep but then again, this is the way companies actually make money with a product that hardly will. Expect cheaper third party accessories to pop up by the PS Vita’s December launch though because, well, that’s just the way it goes.
