EA Visceral Melbourne facing closure

AppId is over the quota

Today, EA Visceral Melbourne staff is meeting with human resources personnel to address what unfortunately might be the last days of the studio’s existence; EA’s Australian limb of Visceral Games is facing closure.

Having worked on critically acclaimed Dante’s Inferno and Dead Space among others, this is a sad thing to be writing about.

Just before the weekend hit, the International Game Developers Association of Melbourne, or IGDA Melbourne, left an alarming tweet on the internets implying the fate of the studio seems to be irreversible. ”More sad news emerging about #EAVisceral Melbourne studio closure. Happy to help all affected in any way we can,” it read.

Making an already bad situation even worse is the fact that EA Visceral Melbourne was working on an unannounced AAA title based on a new IP, which is something we sorely need in a world of prequels and sequels. According to reports, EA Games Label’s Patrick Söderlund did not deem this title profitable and cancelled it, and the studio, altogether.
