Infamous 2: Festival of Blood Preview

AppId is over the quota
Infamous 2 Festival of Blood Screenshot

This Infamous 2: Festival of Blood Preview gives a quick look at what can be expected from the upcoming DLC!

inFamous 2: Festival of Blood is an upcoming, downloadable inFamous title, being marketed as a standalone PSN game separate from inFamous 2. The content will be available for download in October.

Vampires have overrun New Marais and Cole MacGrath has been bitten. He has one night to find and kill the Head Vampire and change back to his usual state – one night to save the city.

Check out the trailer!

Here is a list of key elements that will be available in Infamous 2: Festival of Blood based on news and announcements made so far.

The Story
A recent trailer shows Cole abducted, and being forced to participate in the vampire’s ceremony, as several of the vampires watch it unfold. Awaking to the sight of a female vampire’s carcass, Cole’s neck was partly slit by the side, causing some of his blood to spill over the body. As the vampires watch the ceremony, the body awakens.

Zeke narrates the trailer as the events unfold. He mentions that using Cole’s Conduit blood had some alternate effect compared to normal human blood (due to its inherent healing powers).

New Amp
A new Amp is found in the Teaser Trailer. The design is that of a spade-shaped blade with dark engravings in the metal and a cross design in the hilt.

Moral Choices?
At the end of the teaser trailer, Cole is seen biting a woman civilian. This is not unusual seeing as how vampires need to feed on blood to survive, however it is currently unknown whether or not his vampirism will have noticeable differences in the gameplay such as different abilities and/or weaknesses. It is also unknown whether or not Cole can make moral choices in his vampire state that change the outcome of the content.

Move Compatibility
Along with dating Infamous 2's expansion pack, Sony confirmed that the add-on will introduce Move functionality to the Sucker Punch-developed game. The motion-sensing interface will be integrated into the core Infamous 2 package as well as Festival of Blood.

Final Fantasy X HD Remake Announced For PS3 & PS Vita

Final Fantasy X Remake Announced for PS3 and PS Vita

A Final Fantasy X Remake in High Definition for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita has been announced by Square Enix!

Absolutely no solid information on this remastering was revealed, other than the fact that it IS happening, although Square did say the visuals will be beautiful and elegant. The remake is to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Final Fantasy X!

WOW! Ten years. Craziness. And while some will be extremely pissed that this wasn’t a Final Fantasy VII Remake announcement, it really makes much more sense to remake FFX, as the transition from PS2 visuals to current-gen is much easier than it would be for a PS1 title, which would have to be entirely remade from scratch.

Either way you shake it though, this is extremely cool news. Final Fantasy X is actually my favorite game in the series and a game I absolutely adore, as you can read in my Final Fantasy X Review from years back. Also give my Final Fantasy VII Review a read. And of course, our beautiful Final Fantasy X Wallpaper page.

Here is the Final Fantasy X PS3/PS Vita Remake announcement from the Tokyo Game Show 2011.

Here is a video of the still-amazing FFX Intro!

FFX is only the latest in the growing list of remakes and remasterings for the PS3. An awesome trend!

3DS Slide Pad Expansion Pic Showing How the Device Cradles the Full System

The 3DS “Expansion Slide Pad” attachment (also known as the Second Circle Pad Add-On) was officially announced and revealed at the Tokyo Game Show 2011 during Nintendo’s pre-TGS ’11 Press Conference where details were posted online.

It will be released in Japan on December 10th, 2011 at a price of ¥1,500 or a full $20 bucks. Originally it was reported that the 3DS Slide Pad Expansion would be bundled with Monster Hunter Tri 3G, which releases day and date with the add-on in Japan, but it’s unclear if that is still the case.

Batteries are included with the Slide Pad which will require one AAA battery to power the device. However the Slide Pad, which features a second Circle Pad and an additional trigger button, will only work if games are specifically built to use it.

Here are the games that will support the “Expansion Slide Pad”:

1. Monster Hunter 3G
2. Resident Evil Revelations
3. Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D
4. Ace Combat 3D: Cross Rumble
5. Dynasty Warriors VS
6. Kingdom Hearts 3D
7. Monster Hunter 4

Games that support the Slide Pad in Japan will feature a specific logo that shows the 3DS with the Expansion Slide Pad attached.

No word on when the Expansion Slide Pad for 3DS will be released in the West or what the name or price will be.

Here is a trailer for Monster Hunter 4 exclusive to the 3DS.

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy RPG Announced By Square-Enix For 3DS

AppId is over the quota
Bravely Default: Flying Fairy Sexy Girl Art. New 3DS RPG from Square

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy is a 3DS-exclusive, Square Enix RPG announced at the Tokyo Game Show 2011.

The game promises to offer a classic Japanese RPG-style experience with a new and unique twist, a mysterious AR Card system that the game is built around. AR being the “Alternate Reality” games feature of the 3DS that uses the two cameras on the front of the system to put virtual objects in your real life world. The game is produced by Tomoya Asano and has characters from Akihiko Yoshida.

Details on how exactly the game will work are pretty much non-existent, but Square has confirmed it will make use of multiple AR Cards, a demo of the game is already up on the Japanese eShop and a special promotional AR Card was handed out at TGS 2011. Additionally, a giant life-size AR Card was featured at Square Enix’s booth, which allows gamers to view giant versions of the game’s characters on your 3DS screen.

One thing about the game is clear, it looks absolutely STUNNING. One report goes as far as to say that the game takes what would normally be concept art, and actually builds the in-game environments with them. Creating a game that looks just as good as the art it is based on (which is rarely if ever the case). In the same report the visual style of the game is highlighted in which the player said it felt as if they were inside a painting. It has been compared to the art style of Final Fantasy Tactics, one of the most beloved Square Enix games.

Here is the debut trailer for Bravely Default: Flying Fairy exclusively for 3DS.

And here are a pile of screenshots for this stunning 3DS RPG.

Battlefield 3 beta waiting on Sony, Microsoft

AppId is over the quota

Even DICE doesn’t know when exactly the public Battlefield 3 beta will begin, it would seems.

According to the shooter’s French community manager, the PC beta is ready and able, though the PS3 and 360 counterparts are held up by Sony and Microsoft, respectively; the beta content has been submitted to the platform holders who now need to slap their seal of approval on it.

“Regarding the beta on PC, it is ready, but many require a beta preparations, DICE is working to accelerate these preparations with Microsoft and Sony. Once these are completed, the beta will begin,” the CM reportedly said.

Still no dates then, though it’s still expected to commence sometime this month.

In the meanwhile, have a look at the latest batch of screenshots from the game here, straight from TGS.

Batman: Arkham City Storyline

AppId is over the quota
Batman Arkham City Screenshot

With the release of Batman: Arkham City on the horizon, here are some early story details, which we can expect to see in the second Batman installment!

Arkham City is due to be released worldwide on October 18th 2011, on PC (windows), PS3, Xbox 360 and next year on Wii U!

The story takes place about one year after the events of the first game and builds upon the dark atmosphere established in its predecessor, Arkham Asylum.

Set inside the dangerous district at the heart of Gotham City, this highly anticipated sequel to Batman Arkham Asylum presents us with a new story that brings together a cast of classic characters including the infamous Catwoman! Brand new game play features too promise to deliver the ultimate experience in the newest Batman installment.

These additional story details, revealed by Rocksteady Studios, are generating more excitement for fans anticipating this sequel! Read on for more tantalizing info.

Check out the trailer!

A year after the chaotic events of Batman: Arkham Asylum, both the Elizabeth Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane and Blackgate Prison remain gutted, the former in a massive breakout launched by the inmates and the latter due to a mysterious fire. The administrator of Arkham, mayoral candidate Quincy Sharp, soon takes advantage of the Batman’s defeat of the Joker at Arkham and claims the credit himself for bringing the asylum back under control. This is partially to salvage his image, in tatters after the single worst asylum riot took place at a crucial time when Sharp was trying to convince the people of Gotham City to vote for him. This is successful, and Sharp is elected mayor of Gotham.

His first act is to announce ruined Arkham Asylum and Blackgate Prison both unfit to house criminals. He then undertakes a bold new project: To move all the former inmates of incarceration at both places into a walled-off urban district, Arkham City. This will be a city only for villains, and is made up of Gotham City’s most notorious slums, including Crime Alley. To guard the perimeter of Arkham City the mayor does away with Arkham Asylum’s old security force and replaces them with professional mercenaries from a private military organization, TYGER. Once all the criminals are trapped inside the prison city, they are told they may do as they please, but there is only one rule: Do not escape.

Since the entire population of Arkham is made up of criminals running wild on the streets, Sharp secretly hopes they will destroy each other inside walled confinement instead of committing crimes in Gotham.

With the criminals free to do whatever they want short of escaping, bloody turf wars erupt as various supervillains carve up Arkham City among themselves. A mysterious figure named Dr. Hugo Strange, an Arkham psychiatrist, is placed at the helm of the project by Sharp, but little is known about his objectives or his shadowy past, and rumors soon run rampant that he is up to horrible things behind Arkham City’s walls. Those who try to find out too much about Arkham or Strange one by one mysteriously vanish by night, and it is implied most end up inside the city themselves, to be torn apart by the inmates.
Batman, wary of Sharp and even more so of Strange, monitors Arkham City for several months, believing that the entire thing has been a ticking time bomb waiting to explode.

His pretext to infiltrate the place himself comes when Catwoman, who has no gang and is working as a freelancer in Arkham City, is captured by Two-Face and his henchmen. Two-Face, a new inmate, is short on men and weapons and cannot afford the costly gang battles he is already embroiled in. In order to help achieve dominance and eliminate a potential rival, the villain announces he will publicly execute Catwoman. By doing so he also hopes that this will win him some support among the criminal populace.

With a brand-new bag of tricks, the Dark Knight might just survive the night locked up in an anarchic zone with all of the city’s worst freaks and madmen.

Saints Row: The Third Characters List

AppId is over the quota
Saints Row The Third Cast Image

With the release of Saints Row: The Third on the horizon, here is a list of characters we can expect to see in the third installment!

Saints Row: The Third is due for release on November 15th (US) and November 18th (EU) 2011 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and OnLive! It will be the third title in the series.

Saints Row: The Third takes place a few years after the events of Saints Row 2.

With the Sons of Samedi, the Ronin, and the Brotherhood of Stilwater dispersed, both Dane Vogel and Julius Little dead, and Dex gone, the 3rd Street Saints have gone from a small-time gang to a household brand name in Stilwater. Furthermore, with Dane Vogel dead, the 3rd Street Saints have partnered with their former nemesis, the Ultor Corporation, now that Eric Gryphon has replaced him.

Let’s take a look at the voice cast and characters of Saints Row: The Third!

The Protagonist Image

The Protagonist is the main character of Saints Row, Saints Row 2, and Saints Row: The Third. The Protagonist does not actually have a given name throughout the series, and has been referred to as both “playa” and “boss” throughout the games, and even “MC” (main character) by the community. Along with the lack of a name, The Protagonist also lacks any definitive physical appearance, as the player can change The Protagonist’s appearance at an Image as Designed plastic surgery. The Saints Row series concerns The Protagonist’s adventures as a 3rd Street Saints gang member, starting as an initiate to the gang, second-in-command, and finally leader.

Johnny Gat Image

Voiced by Daniel Dae Kim

Johnny Gat is brash, hot-headed and also very trigger happy. He is of Eastern Asian heritage and has a torrid, on/off relationship with local R&B diva, Aisha. Johnny Gat was an inhabitant of the Saint’s Row district of Stilwater. Realizing that the district was being torn apart by gang wars, he volunteered to join the 3rd Street Saints, a gang aiming to end these wars. Gat was assigned to plot the downfall of the Vice Kings, one of the warring gangs in Stilwater. In doing so, he was aided by the Protagonist.

Shaundi Image

Voiced by Danielle Nicolette
Shaundi is a top lieutenant of the 3rd Street Saints.
The former hippy has become a little more focused in the third installment. In line with the expansion of the Saints’ brand, she now has her own TV dating show and a new look that’s distinctly more professional than her previous bohemian style.

Pierce Image

Voiced by Arif S. Kinchen
Pierce Washington is a top lieutenant for the 3rd Street Saints.
Pierce joined the Saints after The Protagonist convinced him by killing some Ronin members. The Saints lieutenant hasn’t changed much in disposition since the second game, but he has embraced the new media profile that his gang has achieved. He’s currently acting in Japanese commercials to earn extra cash – one of which you’ll see in the game – attempting to launch a music career at the point when the events of this game kick off.

Angel De la Muerte

Voiced by Hulk Hogan
Angel is a former Luchador and member of the 3rd Street Saints. In his glory days, he was once a tag-team partner to the famous luchador wrestler and his partner-in-crime, Killbane. Soon after, they formed a gang in Steelport called The Luchadores, made up of masked wrestlers who use heavy weapons and loved fistfights. Angel is rarely seen in public (due to his ‘unmasking’ at the hands of Killbane) and has found solace as a member of the 3rd Street Saints. Here, he can get revenge on the man who was once his best friend.

Josh Birk Image

Rumored to be voiced by Ashton Kutcher (though this has not been confirmed)
Birk is well-known for his role as Nyteblayde, a TV show about a vampire hunter-turned-vampire, who is hunted by the organization he once worked for. Birk tags along with the 3rd Street Saints to study the gang’s behavior in order for him to make his role in the upcoming movie based on the gang’s adventures convincing. Depicted as a true idiot that is both narcissistic and very stupid, Birk is responsible for landing the Protagonist, Shaundi and Johnny Gat in prison after setting off a silent alarm.

Phillipe Loren Image

Phillipe Loren is the main antagonist in the game, and is the leader of both the Syndicate and the Morning Star. Steve Jaros, lead writer of Saints Row: The Third, describes him as “kind of like a Bond villain. He’s statuesque and poised and elegant, and he’s a total gentleman [...] he’s not effeminate [...] and he’s not going to play to that European stereotype. He’s coldly logical and dangerous and very savvy.”
He is accompanied by his two lieutenants, the DeWynter sisters.

Viola DeWynter Image

Viola is voiced By Sasha Grey
The DeWynters are twin sisters and lieutenants of the Morning Star gang led by Phillipe Loren. They can be identified by the color of their sunglasses; Viola wears white sunglasses whilst Kiki wears pink. It is known that the DeWynter sisters are sent by Phillipe Loren to bail the Protagonist, Shaundi and Johnny Gat out of jail and bring them to him.

Zimos Image

Zimos is Steelport’s oldest pimp.
After being rescued by the player, Zimos becomes an important ally. His connections with the criminal underworld of Steelport are useful in the Protagonist’s early days in Steelport. He takes on the role of something of a tour guide to the Protagonist as he knows Steelport very well.

Matt Miller Image

Matt Miller is a computer genius and leader of the Deckers. In stark contrast to the Luchadores, Miller’s gang is more subtle in its commitment of (cyber)crime. As leader of the Deckers, Miller is in charge of the Steelport’s cybercrime and the Syndicate’s go-to guy for those instances. Miller is described as an Internet god but is socially awkward when out in the open. Steve Jaros, lead writer of Saints Row: The Third, says, “he’s super cocky and kind of obnoxious and is very self-assured in what he does. However, when he’s around Killbane or Phillipe, he’s like a 15-year-old kid sitting at the big kid table”.

Killbane Image

Ignorant of his own name, Eddie Pryor does not respond to this moniker, and instead goes by the name Killbane. He constantly wears his mask, no matter where he is. Killbane is a masked wrestler who leads The Luchadores. After being banished to Mexico after killing an opponent while in the ring, he came back to Steelport in order to regain his lost success.

Kinzie Kensington Image

Kinzie Kensington also has a wide range of technical skills as was displayed in the “Deckers.DIE” trailer, she was displayed as being a computer genius capable of “broadcasting (to the protagonist) your sub-conscious into the Decker user net” In order for the protagonist to battle with Matt Miller. Kensington was originally an intelligence agent for the FBI before defecting over to the 3rd Street Saints for an unknown reason.

Brute Image

The Brute is an enemy in Saints Row: The Third; a massive, unintelligent clone of the giant 3rd Street Saints gang member Oleg Kirrlov, who was cloned back when he was enslaved by The Syndicate, a Brute exhibits great strength and power.

Cyrus is the leader of the Special Tactics Anti-Gang (S.T.A.G.) group.

According to Game Informer,[citation needed] Oleg is a giant member of the Saints who is over eight feet tall and can toss cars as if they were made of styrofoam and doesn’t mind a game of chess now and then. In the CG trailer, he is seen displaying his immense strength with a Morning Star member try to subdue him by hanging on his back whilst he is kicking another one into the rooftop swimming pool. He then throws the man off the building, into the path of a STAG jet.

Sony developing external battery pack for PS Vita

AppId is over the quota

PlayStation Vita’s battery life — as revealed yesterday — is not exactly fantastic; 3-5 hours of game time at default settings and you’ll need a recharge. To make gaming on the go last a tad longer though, Sony’s developing an external battery pack for the device.

IGN got the news from Sony Worldwide Studios prez Shuhei Yoshida. “If you’re flying from New York to San Francisco or vice versa, you’ll have no concerns [about running out of power] if you have the additional external battery,” he said.

No word on how many extra hours the add-on would add, nor how much it would cost just yet though.

But it won’t be the handheld’s only addition. Check here to see what else you can spend on.

Past SoulCalibur games prepping for DLC release?

AppId is over the quota

As SoulCalibur V gears up for an early 2012 release, it looks like we could be getting a blast from the series’ past before the latest entry.

Game director Daishi Odashima has suggested as much on his Twitter account (via). A translation on one of his posts reveals that Namco Bandai is “thinking of releasing past SC series as DLC”.

DLC? Could Odashima have really meant standalone HD updates that we’re so used to seeing these days?  We’ll have to wait a bit to find out.

What good is all this PS3 and PS Vita news if you don’t have a PlayStation system to play? Well, Sony has provided a solution to this problem (via GameInformer) – new systems with new colors.

Both PS3 and PSP will be getting a fresh coat of paint in Japan. PS3 will receive Splash Blue and Scarlet Red on November 17 (sure to please Infamous fans) in the 320GB model. PSP couldn’t make up its mind, so it’s gone for a black and red combo. It looks pretty cool, though if you haven’t bought a PSP in Japan yet, do you even have any interest in the system?

Catwoman gets DLC episodes in Arkham City

AppId is over the quota

It’s been reported that Catwoman, while playable in Batman: Arkham City, will only take up around 10% of the game. That’s to make sure that the focus is still on the Dark Knight, which is a reassuringly smart move in our books.

Some are bound to be disappointed by the lack of feline action, though. And to those people we have on answer: DLC!

ArkhamCity.co.uk cites a GameStop strategy guide in stating that Selina Kyle will be getting four of her own downloadable episodes to scratch through. A further 12 side missions are teased to reveal major characters.

October 18 is when Arkham City hits the US, followed by October 21 in the EU. Look for it on PS3, 360 and PC while the DLC is likely to launch a short while afterwards.

F1 2011 shows off Vita version

AppId is over the quota

Codemasters debuted the PS Vita version of F1 2011 at TGS this year, detailing some of the game’s extra modes and providing a (work-in-progress) trailer.

At the front and center of this version – which retains all tracks, drivers and teams – is the two vs. two co-op mode and four-player competitive races. The Full Season mode will be available along with single Grand Prix races and Time Trial and Challenge modes. The trailer below shows the same kind of gameplay we’d expect from the series, though we’ll admit those visuals could use a fair bit of work.

While release dates for both Vita and 3DS versions are unknown, the PS3, 360 and PC versions will hit worldwide next week. That’s September 20 for the US and September 23 for UK.

Sony’s TGS briefing; Vita dated, will have 100 “launch window” titles

AppId is over the quota

This year’s Tokyo Game Show may not have officially started just yet, but that’s not stopping Sony from taking the stage and holding a pre-TGS press conference, which ultimately hosted a number of representatives from different companies talking about PlayStation Vita. Aside from mentioning all the things we already knew about it, some — arguably — interesting things came to light. At least, if you’re Japanese.

Bear in mind that while we do have knowledge of foreign languages here at TVGB, Japanese is unfortunately not one of them. And given that Sony’s live stream broke two minutes prior to the event starting, we’ve gathered whatever we could, however we could of what went down.

First off, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan’s Hiroshi Kawano takes the stage and after a brief introduction, a release date for the PS Vita is announced. At 29,980 JPY (Yen) and 24,980 JPY, 3G and WiFi models respectively, Sony’s next-gen portable will launch on December 17th in Japan; clever move to let it out there just in time for the holidays. That doesn’t change the expected, and hopeful, Q1 2012 launch for the rest of the world, however. In addition to this, Sony announced a launch line-up of 26 titles, which will all be joined by an additional 74 eventually, bringing it to a total of 100 titles to be released within the Vita’s “launch window.”

The electronics giant also announced it will be partnering with NTT docomo in Japan to bring 3G to the portable device. Pre-paid data plans of 20 and 100 hours were announced for 980 JPY and 4980 JPY (roughly $13 and $65) respectively. The NTT docomo representative talked about three potential “plans” for the Vita: 3G network, cloud-based network and smartphone/tablet network, probably meaning the Vita will be able to interface with the smartphone market rather than compete against it.

As we dwelled deeper into the conference, a few quick demos occurred on stage, including one showing how it’s like to start up the Vita for the first time. This was primarily made to focus on the fact that the portable, if 3G-enabled, will immediately look for the network of your choice right off the bat without hassle. Further demonstrations showed the multitasking capabilities of the Vita as music was played while browsing the photo viewer among other things. Multitasking while in a game was also mentioned to be possible.

Social networks were also included in one corner of this press conference; Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare and Skype will all be available on Vita from the get-go and will support multitasking as well, meaning you can pause a game, send updates, and then go back to it.

There was also mentioning of the Vita supporting “most” downloadable PSP content. As to what extent that “most” implied is at this point anyone’s guess, but PSP owners can at least expect around 600 PSP titles to be fully functional on the Vita. In addition to this, PS3 and PC content can be extracted and stored on the Vita via USB cable.

Kawano concludes the conference announcing PS Vita pre-orderings (in Japan) will begin on October 15th and that TGS will host 80 Vita consoles and 31 games; plenty of hands-on for all you fortunate to be there.

Note: Most people involved in Sony’s press conference talked about and announced games as well, but that’ll be covered throughout the day so stay tuned for those updates.

GTA IV hits 22 million shipped

AppId is over the quota

While Activision’s Call of Duty series has provided some gargantuan sales tallies lately, there’s also another series that is a behemoth of a seller: Grand Theft Auto.

Speaking at ThinkEquity’s Growth conference recently (via IndustryGamers), Take-Two executive Strauss Zelnick revealed new shipment statistics for the GTA series, saying GTA IV has shipped a whopping 22 million units since launch in 2008. Additionally, Zelnick said GTA franchise shipments stand at a massive 114 million units to date.

To put that in perspective, GTA: San Andreas, the previous top franchise seller, shipped about 21.5 million units in its lifetime.

Zelnick also spat out other shipment statistics for Take-Two’s other big franchises. They are:

Midnight Club: 18.5 millionNBA2K: 17 millionRed Dead Redemption: 12.5 millionCivilization: 11 millionBioShock: 9 millionCarnival Games: 8 millionMax Payne: 7.5 millionMafia: 5 millionBorderlands: 4.5 millionThe Darkness: 1 million

Looking ahead, GTA V is supposedly due sometime in 2012. That’s mere conjecture at the moment, but one source says the game is “well under way.”
